Opened in September 2012, The Renaissance Fira Barcelona is a building designed by the Ateliler Jean Nouvel. The hotel is a master piece of surprise, with it´s unique style. It is located in the epicenter of Plaza Europa and next to the Barcelona Fira Gran Via, which is one of the areas with the most congress conventions in Catalunya.
The integration of nature in the infrastructure of the building is an extraordinary factor never before seen in an establishement with such characteristics. The hotel accomodates 293 palm trees
of 10 different typologies and more than 30 types of vegetation from 5 different continents. This astonishingly visual vertical garden is comprised of two towers of 110 meters high and connected
by a spectacular panoramic restaurant and a terrace with a breathtaking viewing point of the city. The 27 floors that comprise the hotel serve as the perfect natural retreat where the palm
trees and vegetation become the architectural elements skillfully integrated into the infrastructure of the building.The constant and absolute presence of nature is a stark contrast to the black and white colour of the building. Three of the four facades of the
buildings are radiant white colour, while the north facade is completely black in it´s design. This duality of colours is also translated into the 357 guest rooms, 314 of which are white and the remaining 43 dark grey.
The combination of these two colours, bound by the grand presence of vegetation and the well studied orientation of the building, transform the hotel into a live and changing element due to the contant fluctuation of light. This ongoing presence of light and shadows contributes to the constant change in the appearance and personality of the vertical garden.
